I've avoided risperidone so far because of the relatively high incidence of akathisia and anxiety. I responded badly to other APs that cause these side effects. Amisulpride is the only other antipsychotic that I could tolerate, and it too raises prolactin but didn't cause the usual side effects assciated with elevated prolactin for me. I don't know about risperidone. The people I've known personally who have taken it appeared very agitated and irritable, had to keep moving all the time. My friend had to quit it earlier this year because it was causing insomnia. My impression is that it causes as side effects the symptoms I most want to treat. I think clonidine might work, but it could aggravate any orthostatic hypotension that Parnate might cause.
