I was one of the original posters on RemedyFind (now revolution health). There was another poster from here called AmeSansVie who also contributed. I was first prescribed tramadol for pain, and with hindsight suffered a bout of severe depression after I stopped it. Later I discovered its 'mood elevating' effect and started buying it from online pharmacies. Tolerance developed very quickly, within a month or so I went from taking 50mg every four hours to 800mg several times a day - double the recommened maximum daily dose. I had to quit it cold turkey several times and the withdrawal symptoms were harsh.
I think tramadol was more euphoric than the codeine I'm addicted to now, but that could be just because it was in pure form and I could raise the dose as I needed it. I haven't tried any other opiates so I can't compare it them. I'm vaguely hoping I might get to try buprenorphine some day.
