The answer to your questions...I don't know.

It did give me severe urinary retention so I know it does work systemically. But why I slept good, no jitters, etc, I don't know. Also strange is that with most drugs I can hardly handle even miniscule amounts. Cymbalta...my max tolerable dose is 5mg. 10mg is way over the top. Lexapro max tolerable is 2mg. Zoloft max is 12.5mg. But with milnacipran I was already up to 50mg, which is a therapeutic dose, in 2 days. I started with 12.5mg the first night and the next morning realized it was a piece a cake.

Don't know why. It is a different drug than anything we have in the USA. It is in FDA now for fibromilagia, so hopefully it will be a USA drug soon. As to the particulars of why it does this or why it doesn't do that, in terms of what might be expected of a noradrenergic drug, I do not know.

It definitely does have a noradrenergic/dopaminergic feel to it, though the expected side effects are either minimal or absent. My experience anyway.

> I've just been reading about milnacipran (Ixel). It's at least 50% noradrenergic and yet it doesn't have tachycardia or insomnia as major side effects. In fact, I think it's supposed to be calming and helpful with sleep. I would have thought that it would produce a racing heart, nervousness and insomnia. Why doesn't it? Could it be that it's effects are mostly in the brain and less systemic? (although I'm not sure that would explain it all either)
