I'm not doing well at all on Provigil. The only reason I take it is as an appetite suppresant since Im on Zypexa. Altough at first when I started taking it it did improve my mood and lifted my depression. Now it is worsening my depression. Increasing the dose just made it worse. I am never taking Provigil again after the day I've had today. I should have been in the hospital this afternoon but I've about gotten through it. My one o'clock dose is wearing off and I am feeling a little better.
I wonder if it makes me more depressed because it decreases GABA.

> This complaint comes up a lot with provigil. Not all the time, but frequently. Not sure what's up with it. Maybe a plateau is reached with the dose and it's now time for a higher one? Maybe the drug has built up over time and is now too much? Maybe brain changes are ocurring that need time to stabilize? Don't know.

> I've never done well with provigil. But I did real well with its parent adrafinil. Even with it though, the first couple weeks were strange. Felt good some days, bad some days, good some hours, bad a few hours later, high energy one minute, total fatigue the next. Adrafinil calls for doses of 600mg to 900mg a day (2 or 3 300mg tabs). I found that the 600mg dose built up over a few days to where it was just too much. I ended up staying with 300mg, gave it about 2 weeks and things were smoothing out, then at about a month I just felt better all around and couldn't even tell I was taking anything. No side effects at all. Just felt better. It was in combo with prozac. It did a good job of countering the emotional numbness of ssris.

> Wish I had some good suggestions for you. Provigil is a tricky one to figure out. It might be just a simple matter of being ready for a higher dose. It might be a situation of needing another drug to balance it out, such as an ssri. I've tried adrafinil with prozac, zoloft, and lexapro, and by itself. All were lousy except with prozac where it was real good. Some good synergy with prozac. Don't know why.
