Amisulpride does not cross the blood brain barrier very well but, the pituitary gland, which controls prolactin levels, is not protected by the blood-brain barrier. 50 mg of amisulpride may be a low dosage to those areas of the brain protected by the blood-brain barrier but it is a potent dosage to the unprotected pituitary gland.
Too bad that amisulpride increases prolactin. If it weren't for this side-effect, it would be a great antidepressant for many sufferers (especially those suffering from dysthymia).
