Ambien (zolpidem) is a dirty med. It can aggravate depression and it should not necessarily retain its efficacy after continued use. I used to take it as an alternate to Xanax, but I know both are not the same at any rate.

Zolpidem doesn't cause withdrawal seizures. This is the only advantage it has over benzos. But it is a dangerous medication as it can cause total amnesia and somnabulism in certain individuals.
