According to the information that I found out through wikipedia, it is said that Zolpidem and Alpidem are in the class of Imidazopyridine category. I don't know if lunesta is in the same class.
I did find out that lunesta belongs to the class of cyclopyrrones. Both drugs (Ambien and Lunesta) are considered to be sedative hypnotics.
I believe that Ambien is more of a hypnotic and lunesta is more of a sedative. Also, this depends on the person and how they will react to the medication.
I have taken lunesta in the past but it broke me out in a rash (rare side effect). I guess that ambien is the KING when it comes to being similar to a benzodiazepine.
P.S. If I want to learn more about medications is it a good idea to take chemistry classes. Say, Organic Chem I and II or Physical Chemistry.
You were a nurse at one time during your career correct?
Thanks : )
