It sounds obviously like you have a lot of anxiety that might be keeping you awake. For me, 300mg of topamax did nothing at all-- I didn't even get the appetite suppression most people get! When I've been manic, I've been able to take huge combinations of meds that would put an elephant to sleep but not me. I just felt so revved up that I couldn't unwind enough to sleep. If you feel physically anxious at bedtime, maybe you could try propranolol, which slows you down. Is it possible you're manic or even depressed with agitation? If you have bipolar traits, a mood stabilizer would help even you out and eventually help you sleep better. So would an antipsychotic. Zyprexa could knock me out on my feet. Even a low dose of Seroquel usually puts most people to sleep, and one of my drs once called it "the most expensive sleeping pill on the market." For me, trazodone and Ambien CR both take awhile to kick in, so I've often found something interesting to do and have been distracted from feeling sleepy when they finally work. I took Halcion for a short time, and it put me to sleep quickly and effectively, but these days, not a lot of drs are willing to prescribe it. I've tried every sleeping pill there is, and none of them have worked all the time. I would just try talking to your dr about some of these options. I hope you find something that works! Good luck,
CB
