I just found something out that ticks me off, so forgive me my little rant.
Some time back, my pdoc wrote my prescription for Ritalin. 5mg tablets, immediate release methylphenidate. I took it to my preferred pharmacy -- where I was told that they could not obtain it. Today, I found out what I had suspected: the pharmacy manager refused to order it. They could, indeed, have ordered it and saved me a good deal of hassle. Grrr. Apparently, the former manager there did not like to stock any scheduled drugs, and wouldn't order certain things.
The new manager says he'll just order in enough Concerta to fill my prescriptions regularly. He was very nice about it, too.
I'm thrilled that I won't be running out of Concerta this way again -- I have been out for a week, and at half my dose for several days before that, leaving me in a very bad state.
I'm also annoyed. Strange to say, my pdoc believes that it is appropriate to prescribe methylphenidate to me. Why does a pharmacist get to decide that it's not?
Thank you very much for your time and attention in this matter. You may now return to your regularly scheduled programming.
