my cat needs a pdoc...

Everynight at around 3 am, these horrible yowling meows, punctuated by bursts of running.
Then daytime somnolence.
I suspect my cat of having psychiatric disorder, perhaps a sleeping disorder, or some kind of bipolar mixed episode. Also, possible fear of abandonment whilst the humans are sleeping?
will giving my cat some catnip help with this nocturnal disturbance?
dosage/time of day?
I'm only kidding a *little*. MY lack of sleep on the other hand... that's a real issue, not totally unrelated to kitty.
