If you think one should take only one med, does that include sleep meds? Your temper might be from the irritability caused by lack of sleep.
For sleep, I'd suggest seroquel. It's an atypical AP, but at low doses is used quite a bit for insomnia.
If you don't want to try that, maybe ambien would be enough, but I find that with Emsam, I need seroquel.
You also could take the patch off when you go to bed and put it on six or seven hours later-- which has also worked well for me. I don't know what dose you're on, but you could try a higher dose during the day and then 6-8 hours off at night. This assumes that you could get back to sleep after getting up and putting a patch on. I've been able to, but I sometimes use Sonata (a short half-life sleep med) to get back to sleep. However, I generally have insomnia, which you may not.
