-----------------------Yup, this med is notorious for weight gain....no matter what dosage you are on. I could sit down and eat a whole pumpkin pie all by myself, then look for something else to eat a few minutes later! Seriously! I would make myself feel sick from over-eating so much, but I couldn't seem to stop because of this insistent craving for the taste of food in my mouth. Grrrrr.
If you can get on a combination of Remeron and Topomax, I would recommend that. It worked great for me. I was beginning to lose some of the Remeron weight (quite quickly, actually), when I found out that my insurance didn't cover Topomax....and I just couldn't afford that med on my own. But if you could get it added on as a mood stabilizer or something, maybe insurance would cover it. It really does take away those horrible eating urges.
As for how the med itself works, I've said this before: It was my wonder drug. I simply loved it. It saved my life. I called it my "anti-suicide" drug, and it also cleared my head of ruminations. I was fairly stable during the two years that I was on it, but gaining 70 pounds made me have to say bye-bye to it. Glad to say that I'm back to 130 pounds now, so the weight CAN be lost....but not when you're on the med unless you're using something like Topomax.
Good luck, everyone.
God bless,
Sandy
