no ticks when extremely anxious

Posted by someday on February 10, 2007, at 18:26:55

I've been having tourette's syndrome since I was young. When I got into adulthood (24 now), tics decreased dramatically. Atm, I'm suffering from GAD.

What I'm curious about is that when I'm extremely anxious with all the physical symptoms like shoulder pain, sore throat, and so on, I have to desire to do tics. But, when I take some antianxiety drugs like benzodiazepine or become naturally relaxed by chance, I get this desire to do tics.

I've always thought tics are triggered by stress and anxiety, but it seems opposite to me.

Does anyone have explanation about this?
