Yes, it is a phenethylamine compound in the amphetamine family. While definately not as strong as its chemical cousin compound ephedrine, it can make -some- people even without anxiety disorders have what appears to be an anxious syndrome. Perfectly normal reaction.
This is largely the effects it has on the heart and it also affects noradrenaline. Hence, adrenaline rushes, excitability, etc. Could be lessened with a small amount of propranolol, but eventually one probably would cancel out the other.
