In reply to Help please! Paxil for 8 weeks and doesn't kick in, posted by lukeds on September 18, 2006, at 12:16:07
For some reason, SSRIs like Paxil often become ineffective after a period of time. That's the bad news. The good news is that many people find that, after one SSRI stops working, another will work. That means that if you try, say, Celexa, it may work better for you. Or Zoloft or Prozac, but those may cause some anxiety.
The even better news for you is that, after a period of time, the SSRI which used to work may work again for you. You have to be off it longer, though, so you'll need to find something else for a while.
Effexor is a good drug, as is the newer Cymbalta. Remeron is said to be helpful for anxiety, too. Sometimes adding Lamictal can boost the antidepressant effects of other drugs, so that's another option.
Eight weeks is long enough to make it seem Paxil isn't going to work for you right now. Can you call your doctor and see if you can try something else?
I hope that helps.
