I had a reaction to this drug that had it remained unchecked could have progressed to sjs.
SJS is rare but potentially dangerous reactions to this medication are not.
I used to jump on posts describing what I now know to be potential early sjs reactions but it seemed like my advice to stop the med and seek care would be followed by others with a quite laissez-faire attitude toward the reaction.
This was so alarming to me as even though I caught my problem quite early it set me back health wise and consequently mood-wise by 6+ months. I have kind of washed my hands of the whole mess and avoid even responding to the folks I see again and again asking about reactions to Lamictal.
I guess my point is....please err on the side of caution when advising others about Lamictal reactions.
Personally, I have found dangerous reactions to be not so rare with this drug and speaking from experience-The cure is not much better than the disease. (halting a sjs reaction)
Namely HIGH doses of Prednisone. That stuff was hard on me in many ways and took a long time to recover from.
I'm sure I am polarized on this subject due to my experience but am convinced that these people need to be pointed to the ER with a print out of SJS to hand to the Dr. (they may not know about SJs esp. with Lamictal and wrong treatment coulde worsen the condition severly)
Sorry for the rambling post. Just wanted to get this off my chest.Peace,
Kaye
