HiIt's scientifically not clear at this time what is the nature of the dopaminergic problem of the social phobics. A lack of dopamine is one of the theory. Others talk about to much dopamine at X place in the brain. And others are not even described in terms of too much or too less.
I'm not for or against any of those theories, but the 'lack of dopamine' cannot yet be proove with today dopamine agonists: It's well known that, for example, Wellbutrin isn't effective in SP. In fact, before Pdoc prescribe agent working mainly on dopamine, they usually wait until there is not much left to try. In SPVille, GABA and Serotonin is what composes the 90% of meds usually prescribed. The only exception I see to this logic is maybe the MAOIs which are good for SP but plays well with dopamine and NE (Parnate much more than Nardil).
That said, this explains well my problem:
My Wang likes Dopamine
My Ambitions/work likes NE
.. but My SP likes Serotonin ..damn

> Martin, i think you are confused about the dopamine problem. Yes, people with social phobia are deficient in Dopamine,(theoretically anyway) therefore adding dopamine will help not agitate. My doc put me on a dopamine enhancer (Mirapex) and it definitely helped my social phobia...I HATE THAT LABEL...Did you know Monte is a Social Phobic? Makes me sound like a freak! Anyway, the Mirapex was short lived but it did help for awhile. Your right about the greater chance of getting Parkinson's..because it is related to low dopamine levels.
