> So, what are the key differences between Pregabalin and Gabapentin?
They work through different ion channels though they both hit one transmitter the same. Gapapentin is an isomer of GABA, Pregabalin's structure is different though somewhat related.
I'm stepping out on the brave new world of Lyrica tonight...
> Anyone like to add any comments? I know little about the differences but have had my eye on Lyrica for a while now.
The eye, ironically is my main concern -- up to 10 % of people have reported blurry vision and other visual aberrations from a to z.
About the same or less have some slight weight gain but not like other major suspects.
> What are the dosage equivalents? 300mg of Gabapentin =Its hard to say -- Gabapentin is non-linear, and eliminates from the body if a dose is over 900 or so at a time. Lyrica is almost completely linear, and more powerful, so perhaps less is needed.
It is approved in the US only for Diabetic Neuropathic Pain, Shingles Neuropathic Pain, and Adjunctive Treatment for Partial Onset Seizures in Adults.
However it is slowly being used to see if it will act as Neurontin does as a mood stabilizer / anxiolytic.
It was going to be slapped with a C-IV in the US and is now C-V, one of a very few set of medications that are C-V... most C-V medications really are almost un-categorized. The meth craze in the midwest let one of those states to slap C-V on Sudafed so you have to obtain a prescription which is totally stupid. (And Sudafed PE does not work.) Anyway, that issue seems to be more resolved that Federally, Sudafed cannot be sold more than 3.6 grams a day. Of course in a big city methheads can shop at different pharmacies. But the problem is more in rural america so maybe that will change. Who knows. Anyway that's off topic.
I think I am experiencing a minor feeling in the eye at 25mg though that could just be a placebo effect or that its late at night. I'm going very very slow on it because my doctor thinks I am near a GABA limit with Neurontin and if you have too much GABA going around it can also cause seizures.
