> Please post here why you do not like meds and why and what you tried them for and if you still are on a med or trying a combo to get one of the combos to work and what condition you are treating. Thanks Phillipa
Just catching up here, so Id like to address the original question :D
It has been my experience that as others here have already posted, Meds at best mask our problems and allow us to function...and to some they are the only thing keeping them alive.
I too have wondered "what if" I had never allowed my MD to prescribe and talk me into taking first Xanax...and then Zoloft. I dont mena to place the blame on him....its just that I was extremly resistant to any medication...but after several years of increasing panic attacks combined with agoraphobia, I finally relented and accepted the medication.
It did mask the symptoms of both my conditions.
However.............It is now 10 years later, and I am dependant on 6mg of Xanax per day, and 100 mg of Zoloft.
Each time I have tried tapering and managed to go off my anti-depressant ( the longest period was 2 and 1/2 months) I encountered a situation in life that left me sinking in depression, so I returned to my Meds.
( I have never tried to ween off Xanax)...I cant even imagine life of both Meds...especially the Xanax, what started out as .25 mg "as needed" gradually increased ( tolerance) to my present 2 mg tablets 3 times a day. I have kept my current dose for over a year...and refuse to go any higherStill...I cant help wondering how differnt the last 10 years would have been if I had continued to say NO ...but endured severe panic attacks and increasing agoraphobia, or found a better way to deal with them.
No real answers here....just some thoughts.
