In reply to I Do Not Believe In Meds Because, posted by Phillipa on March 1, 2006, at 21:55:17
I don't like meds because they cost so much, because most head meds don't seem to work, it's so much trial and error, more side effects than benefit. I'm sick of taking weeks/months out of my life on "trials" that don't work, keep me from sleeping, make me more anxious, fat or keep me from enjoying sex. All that sucks!
I don't like the fact that with all we know or should know, we seem to know so little about medically treating depression, anxiety and other disorters. Many scientists admit they don't really know why many of the drugs even do work.
I feel like I've been a lab rat with all the meds I've tried, to many to name. Psycho tropic blends on and on. My diagnosis is generalized social anxiety with dysthymia. To date, the only thing that has helped is klonopin 2mgs. And the only thing I haven't tried are MAOI's.
I'm at least functional with klonopin, but it's not perfect and I do wonder how much of my dysthymia is from my anxiety disorter and how much of it is a side effect of klonopin.
All that said my hope is that because there's so many people with so many disorters (with new disorters being discovered all the time), that they'll figure this med stuff out as there's so much money in it.
So on the bright side, perhaps we have some hope in new meds, new options and hopefully some relief from all that suffer. Right now my hope is with EMSAM, I'll post my experience with it..
