As far as I know, Lunesta, Ambien and Ambien CR are all schedule 4 controlled drugs in the US.

Neither Ambien nor Lunesta is structurally similar to a benzo. Both drugs bind to benzodiazepine receptors in the brain though. Ambien is more selective for alpha-1 receptors than Lunesta. Benzos are non-selective. I guess you could say that Lunesta is actually more benzo-like than Ambien.
