'Narcotic' is a pejorative/negative term which doesn't have any real scientific meaning. The term 'narcotic' is sometimes used legally but not in medicine.
Ambien, Ambien CR and Lunesta *all* have a certain amount of 'abuse potential', as do benzodiazepines.
