Hi Phillipa,
That is so interesting that you had such widely different responses to meds before menopause compared with after. I've seen you mention that here before, and I've read that estrogen has profound effects on neurotransmitters. I've noticed that my responses to meds vary a lot throughout my menstrual cycle. I've learned the hard way not to try any new medicines during the luteal phase (the second half of my cycle). The closer I get to my period, the more depressed I get. I can also get very cranky then, so trying a new med then just confounds the picture.
A few months ago, I posted a message here about an abstract I read a few years ago about post-menopausal women on amphetamines. When those women were given supplemental estrogen, they were able to get by on MUCH lower doses of amphetamines.
