No way to tell how ritalin will act with you. A personal trial will tell. As with all meds, it's a decent idea to start low, go slow, and feel it out. Stimulants usually require very individualized dosing sizes and schedules.
I would not stop drinking coffee completely. Even if you only drink it now and then, stopping it completely can still bring on withdrawal effects that will confuse the whole picture. What you might do is drink as you usually do, but mix your coffee about 1/3 decaf and 2/3 regular, or 1/2 and 1/2. Lessening the amount of coffee intake won't affect things much, but stopping it completely at the same time you are starting a new med could cause confusing things to happen where you wouldn't be able to pinpoint exactly whether it was the ritalin or the coffee.
