Hi G

'Brain zaps' can occur when the blood level of Effexor is low. You can deal with this problem by taking Effexor in divided doses eg. 112.5mg (three 37.5mg caps) in the morning and 112.5mg in the evening. Alternatively, you could take 150mg in the morning and 75mg in the evening - but this might not work as well.
