In my experience shivering has been related to the following, which may be connected through some stress response :
1) any detoxification (pathogen, heavy metals, drugs esp.)
2) being cold to raise the body temp.
3) stress/panic response
4) endorphins - lack of (which often accompanies tooth grinding another stress response)
4) loss of certain electrolytres (magnesium, with high calcium) and problems with sodium and potassium somewhere too.
All does seem to fit a stress/cortisol HPA/adrenal type thing.
