That shivering, as I understand it, is related to the diurnal cycles that our bodies go through and has to do with varying levels of cortisol at different times of the day.

Basically, the shivering that one gets usually somewhere in the 3-4 AM range is because that's about the time that your body experiences a surge of cortisol. That surge is what wakes you up a few hours later, by the way, and it's one reason that shift work is so hard: that diurnal cycle is pretty much the same no matter what your schedule, so if you work nights, you'll get that shivery thing and want to wake up around 7AM anyway.

If it has any relation to SSRIs, though, I know not.
