If one is depressed, sometimes a benzo can make you more depressed, or less depressed.
Often, especially with Klonopin, due to its potency, even I feel this way if I haven't take it for weeks or so-- it'll feel like complete terrible lethargy/depression for like a day and a half of last taking it the first time for awhile, and that passes, and after that hopefully you'll realize your body is incredible at eventually adjusting to the drug for you, and you wait it out. Some don't, and think that it means they'll feel like that forever on the drug, discontinue it, and write it off.
It's best to discuss with your doc first, suggest perhaps giving it a break for a couple of days, then taking very small doses slowly to allow your body to adjust over time.
As for addiction, it is addictive, which is why it's a C-IV. It's only a C-IV. It's psychologically addictive, which means it can lead to dependence in terms of seizures, psychological obsessions to seek out the drug, and increase the dose.
Klonopin is not actually physically addictive. If your doctor is not appropriately doing a slow taper with any benzo, as in, several weeks, or three weeks at least, that's dangerous, and can lead to seizures, as well as things like depression, lethargy, anxiety, agitation, etc.
That's psychological mechanisms of addiction.
Xanax, however, is physically addictive. That's very different altogether.
Different people resond differently. I've taken Klonopin, 3mg/day for a couple of years and then suddenly stopped taking it, and I never got any withdrawls or seizures or anything, aside from rebound anxiety now and then.
But another person may very well have gotten a seizure, so, if I was an M.D., I would never tell a patient to do that to himself. I just did it 'cause I was like, "um, I dunno, whatever, I know." that, and I think I switched docs or something weird, so no supply.
Anyhow, Xanax is physically addictive. Of course Klonopin is psychologically addictive. All you need to worry about are seizures, as well as the things like everything psychologically you mentioned. Which don't happen to me, but it's coo.
Slow taper generally does the trick, though...
