In reply to every possible sensible test i can get, posted by iforgotmypassword on October 17, 2005, at 16:37:29

Hi,

I have just recently started seeing a Naturopathic doctor (in Ottawa). I decided to see a naturopath when I learned that a naturopath can requisition the same bloodwork and tests that a doctor can (although I am not sure about EEGs, PET scans, etc.). However, the bloodtests would not be covered under OHIP, but would have to be covered by the patient. The naturopath also uses saliva testing, which, apparently, is a more precise testing method for things like hormones. I have my follow-up visit on Wednesday, at which time I will find out, based on questionnaires I have completed, what tests she wants to do. I would imagine, if I have concerns that she may not have addressed, I can ask for additional tests (since I am paying for the tests). As opposed to a Dr. who, in many cases, will only do basic testing, the naturopath will likely do more thorough testing, including a full thyroid panel, rather than just TSH. Anyway, if you are interested in knowing the name of the naturopath I am seeing, let me know. She is located in Orleans. There are others in Ottawa, and I can provide you with the link to the Ontario Association of Naturopaths (I think that's what it's called) where you can search by city for a complete list of naturopaths.

In addition, a little while ago, I had contacted someone in the States about whether the rEEG method was available in Canada. It is not, but here is the response I got, should you wish to pursue rEEG.

"RE: rEEG method in Canada?

Dear Tamara,

I am the president of CNS Response who provides the rEEG analytical service to physicians. Dr. Emory is one of the two key developers of this technology and he asked me to respond to your note.

We don’t currently provide any physicians in Canada with this service, though the equipment used is standard digital EEG equipment which I believe is available throughout Canada. In fact, when we typically get an inquiry like yours, we suggest that it may be best to add the analysis of rEEG to that which the treating physician has developed from working with the patient. So, though that physician may be unfamiliar with rEEG, it may be best to work with your current physician in contemplating the results of rEEG analysis.

If this is a course that you would like to pursue then we would need your physician to schedule a time with one of us for an introduction. From there a local EEG testing would have to be arranged with the record sent to us and we would return the report to the physician. For new physicians we also request that they have a phone consult with one of our Regional Medical Directors to review the rEEG report.

I have copied Amanda Newman who can help you and your physician with this.

By the way I have two questions for you. (1) What part of Canada are you in. (2) How did you learn of rEEG and to contact Dr. Emory?

Let Amanda or I know how you would like to proceed.
