From what I understand, long-term use of MDMA can produce damage to certain neurons in the brain and skeletal muscles. It is said to deplete the brain of serotonin and affect negatively both mood and cognition. Debate in this area can be quite lively. However, the implications of this issue involve some very serious irreversible effects. At the moment, I tend to side towards the position that insures the most safety.
I do respect those who believe that much of the investigational work involving MDMA and neurotoxicity involves bias. However, I believe most of these studies are performed in good faith. This, of course, demonstrates my own bias.
