Sounds like what the symptoms of "let down", which oxytocin treats, are similar to depression to some degree. This is an explanation of why oxytocin nasal spray and IV are used for what they are currently used for (it has phsyiological mechanisms also that aren't mentioned):
"You sometimes may notice that your milk does not flow easily, or let-down, when you attempt to breast-feed or use a breast pump. Emotional stress, fatigue, anxiety, smoking, pain, or being cold are common causes of poor let-down.
With poor let-down, you may not experience the tingling and leaking of milk that usually occurs when your milk begins to flow. Poor let-down may lead to sore nipples because the baby has to suck harder to get milk or you have to pump longer to collect milk.
Increasing your comfort and level of relaxation often improves let-down. If this does not work, an oxytocin nasal spray is available by prescription to aid let-down."
