In reply to Hey folks, it's not just the MEDS, posted by DoYouKnowHim? on August 20, 2005, at 3:28:39
If you can't get out of bed or pick up the phone, positive suggestions only serve to make you feel worse.
Meds may not be the only modality but often they should be the first.
One can be talked to by therapists for years without improvement.
They subtly encourage a person to feel bad for feeling bad.
Since their particular school insights and theories are “the legitimate one”, then the only barrier to recovery left is the subject's unwillingness to improve.
The psychotherapeutic profession is perpetuated by self-assured un-initiates, who overcame their problems so why won't you.
Let these gurus experience a decade or two of severe major depression or other mental illness and then talk to about about therapy versus medication.
Give me the disease model every time.
Anybody in sufficient pain is going to start talking meds in short order.
When all these wonderful drugs started to appear over fifteen years ago, it was apparent immediately that it was brain chemicals not character that were the primary cause of my emotional hallucinations.
