Hi, Violet.

If my experience is any guide, it won't go away, it will get worse. For me, the stiff neck happened on Prozac (very, very bad), Zoloft (very, very bad), Celexa (bad), Lexapro (bad) and Cymbalta (mild). Didn't happen at all on Effexor or Paxil.

It started for me with tightness in my upper back, knots along my shoulder blades that were very tight and painful. Eventually it traveled up into my neck. By the end of eight years on Prozac, the pain was so bad I actually thought about suicide. I saw chiropractors, physical therapists, pain management doctors and had two cervical epidurals. All because I didn't know it was caused by the Prozac. When I mentioned it to doctors, I was told it wasn't from the Prozac, it was because I had disk problems in my neck (which I do). However, when I switched from Prozac to Effexor, within three weeks, the pain went from a 9 to a 3 (on a scale of 10).

When Effexor pooped out 4-5 years later, I tried Zoloft. Pain came back. I went back to Effexor, pain went away. Tried Celexa. Pain came back. Back to Effexor, pain gone. Tried Lexapro, pain came back. Went to no meds, pain went away. Back to Celexa, pain came back. Back to Effexor pain went away. The only SSRI that didn't cause neck pain was Paxil.

Now when a doctor tries to tell me SSRIs don't cause neck pain, I know better. I've experimented enought times to know for sure absolutely that they can and do!

I think reducing your dosage will help. I have found I can take 10mg of Celexa without too much pain. At 20mg it's intolerable.

Hope this helps.

Marsha
