Hi,

>Other side effect have abated over time. Will this?

In my experience, Effexor and similar drugs were always numbing, how ever long I took them for.

>(He's been on it for about 6 months.) If he does taper off Effexor, how long might it be before his emotional capacity returns?

Very soon after stopping Effexor, I felt very emotional all ofa sudden.

>But there must be other choices out there that could control his depression without the loss of emotion.

Avoid SSRIs, they all seem to be numbing to some extent. Desipramine or nortriptyline might be worth considering.

Kind regards,
Ed.
