Be adamant with your doctor that you feel HORRIBLE and that you are tired of the med-go-round. Of course, I had an idiot doctor once who would've rather wasted years of my time trying every combination of antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, and SSRIs/TCAs/Remeron/trazodone to no avail rather than prescribe an MAOI. IT makes me sick.
I believe in my first search for an Maoi which mind you cost me 150 bucks in cash up front(no insurance at the time) the docs exact words were "its not in the patients best interest to prescribe maois,we dont use em) and sent me off with wow i cant believe it to this day,a buspar/lihtium combo,so i paid 150 for that. For me it took a wonderful very mature in age woman docter who remebered when they were a standerd, after hearing no from 4 docs it was a relief to hear her say oh yeah parnate yeah i used to have good success with that.
She said if would take a certain type of paitent for her to prescribe that now,she took a chance with me,when i asked her why when it can help so many.....she said something that unlike the other docters who gava a bunch of bs,she simply said william my insurance rates are already sky high i simply dont trust or believe patients will take enough care with them, unlike the other docters her anser sounded very sincere.
Point of all that is,chairman i think it might be a bit harder for some to get maois than one would think, have a personal friend now bluntly refused it,no way no how she was told.
