For me and many of you the treatment that will remedy our disorder eventually will be elevating certain hormonal proteins that we are not producing proper amounts of. It will be treatments similar to insulin for diabetics or thyroid hormone for hypothyroid patients. I do not produce addequate levels of Inhibin B. Other people do not produce enough of other elements. In an article by Jennifer Altman titled " Gonadal Hormones Humour the Brain" in which she reports on presentations of neuroendocronologists presentations at a conference in 2003 organized by the IPSEN FOUNDATION, it seems they are on the verge of understaning how hormones affect mood and cognition. Our biochemistry is quite an orchestra of interacting elements. For so many years the majority of Pdocs have bought into the theory that mood disorders are caused by imbalances of seretonin, NE or dopamine. This is clearly not necessarily so. Those of us treatments resistant sufferers are in a tough position. One day appropriate treatment will be available. But how do we survive till then? Best wishes.
