when i took it, i took 2mg twice a day. unfortunately, it was so subtle that i couldn't feel it start to work and couldn't say for sure whether it was working at all... so i don't know how long a single dose lasts. after less than two weeks, i went back to regular xanax. i preferred the ups and downs and definite potency to the smoothness of the xr. if i want a longer-acting benzo, i prefer klonopin over xanax xr. it lasts nearly as long and has more of a calming effect on me. plus, as someone else said about the cost of xanax xr, klonopin doesn't cost me an arm and a leg!
