> bethannieHi Bethannie:
I am an Effexor XR "success story" and so my first word -- hang in there. I do not know what you mean by "a while." It does take some time (maybe a month or 5 weeks) for the side effects like drowsiness to go away. But I agree that dosing at night is a good idea. As far as the grinding the teeth goes, I am not an nervous type either and I do not even know why I would be grinding my teeth but my dentist says I do. You could be (subconsciously) nervous about the fact that you are having sleepiness in the morning. Who knows. Or maybe it is a SE of the drug. You can ask your dentists about those anti-grinding gadgets or get one at the drugstore to put in your mouth so at least your BF can get a good night sleep until this passes and you adjust to the meds (lol). It really is a vicious cycle. You are sleepy during the day and then you do not sleep well at night. Remember the basics -- do not nap during the day so that you are really ready for bed at night. The big thing to do is keep track of all of these issues. Keep a journal of side effects. Communicate with your doctor at the next visit. If the side effects start interfering with your life (i.e. the sleepiness becomes such that you cannot function then call him/her). You are a team with your doctor. The team effort is how you are going to get back to your old self. Take care of yourself and be patient with yourself. ;-)
