Because, I said "long term use". It can work as a sedative for a few weeks, but after that it usually does nothing to help sleep, and you can suffer minor hangover effects the next day if you don't take some agian in the morning.If you take half of your dose at night and half in the morning, I bet that your sleep would be no worse, and the anxiety that you are "not too troubled with" during the day will be gone or reduced.
Of course we all react differently to these meds. However, from years of personal experience and from lots of reading, I believe the above is largely true.
