Unreal sensation

Can anyone tell me what this is? Today I was a to work and all of a sudden felt like nothing was real. It sounds crazy and it's really hard to discribe. It made me feel like hurting myself just to feel something, to know that I was real and the world was real. I felt like I was going crazy. It was like, "this isn't really happening." This sensation has happened to me before. Has anyone else experienced this? What is this?
