I have only been on effexor for 6 weeks. I am trying to control my drinking thru counselling etc. I am hoping that I've been drinking too much due to depression, rather than a dependancy on alcohol. Anyway - while I have cut down on the number of days I drink (from 7 to say 3 or 4) when I do drink, I still drink too much according to my doc, who says no more than one or two glasses. Last night for instance, I drank my typical bottle of red wine, and the only difference I can feel is I'm a little drowsier. My doc had said the effexor would increase the effects of alcohol, but I haven't found that. The problem with mixing the two is apparently damage to the liver. So, not to encourage anyone to drink while on meds, but the bottom line is you should be okay with a couple of drinks now and then.
