Since my major depression first flared up in '84, before the SSRIs were around, my pdoc opted then to try MAOI Parnate rather than a trycyclic AD. I moved to Thailand in '97 and have to return to the U.S. every year to get a year's supply. Back in 2001, I thought I'd try one of the newer ADs to see how I'd do with it. So I started with Remeron and it pooped out after a while. Then I tried Zoloft and didn't like it because of its effect on libido and failure to prevent anxiety. Then I tried moclobemide (Aurorix), which is not available in the U.S. This stuff actually made my depression worse. So the answer to this hard-learned lesson was that I should have stuck with the Parnate.
