We imprint meaningful events. Everybody does. Your psychotic symptoms may be the result of past experiences you have imprinted ( bells, chimes, voices, etc) that are being triggered. Similarly violent behaviours can be imprinted. I don't think that people usually introject ( if I may use the word ) these things to the degree some people do. Most people have a good deal of conscious control over their actions. Some people select only certain information from their environment to imprint and I believe in the case of broad band paranoia, these things stick out and are triggered by external events. Even if your experiences aren't that stressful, you may be sensitive to certain things. This is all my opinion. Please do not take it too seriously. This is what I've concluded about myself and I'm just suggesting it as a possibility.
I too have been diagnosed bipolar, and have minor psychotic symptoms. However, I believe the psychotic symptoms are more a result of this imprinting/broad band thinking (subtle outside stimuli set them off ) process than anything else.
For example if when I was 7 someone insulted me and it really stuck out for the rest of my life, then I might be triggered. I believe that, depending on how much you take in from your environment on a daily basis these negative experiences can be over-ridden. I think if you don't absorb a lot from your environment, the arousing, negative or positive, experiences stick out and present as delusional paranoia when you're presented with a trigger. Once again, this is ALL opinion. Please do not take it seriously. Think about it if you like, but don't take it too seriously. This is my theory based on my experiences and it may help explain yours too.I've found that I can deprogram myself of these hallucinations if I try. It does work believe it or not. You just have to focus and direct your thoughts. You can do it. I find if I think something else, or say something else, or whatever, I can over-ride them.
The hallucinogenic influences would be mild environmental stimuli that you're sensitive to and are selectively imprinting.
It's funny stuff, and very interesting. Once again, these are all theories. They work for me.
Typically for psychotic symptoms like hallucinations people are treated with an AP in addition to a mood stabilizer. However, if the hallucinations are "stress" induced or due to something ( if it exists ) like what I described then you may be able to get over them without the AP or with a reduction in stress. Again, don't take me seriously. I'm throwing thoughts out the window. I don't guarantee them. They're only ideas. This is babble.
Somebody may have something interesting to say about this... maybe they know what I'm talking about. Anyway, it's something for you to consider.
