I found nortriptyline very effective during a very bad time after my mother died. Although I have bipolar disorder and can't tolerate SSRI's, nortrip (which is an old-school tricyclic) worked very well, the best of anything I've ever taken. I had to stop because it caused dry mouth which became really uncomfortable, however, I'm pretty sensitive in that way.
Low dose gabapentin also works well, but it creates tolerate pretty quickly. You have to keep the dose low, take off a week and then back on. It works well for me.
You won't want to hear this, but the best remedy all around is exercise and lots of it. There are times when you just can't manage it but once you get to a point with your medication where your motivation and energy are increased, just push yourself for a week. That's all it will take to help develop a daily habit. It's really a cure all. I should follow my own advice.
