In reply to How can my doctor NOT think i'm a hypochondriac, posted by lynch03 on December 4, 2004, at 14:03:17
You know what you experienced. Just face the facts that the doctors won't believe you and move on... at least that's the philosophy Ive adopted. I've got a load of problems now and there's nobody who can help me with them. As long as you look relatively and measurably good on the outside it doesn't matter to the doctor. It's called being objective.
Pardon me for being so negative. This is the only thinking that gives me solace, as I've been in a similar situation.
The good news is, you don't have to take anything they give you if it doesn't work for you. If you were forced the meds and have problems, that really sucks. Never get yourself in a situation where you'll be drugged against your will. That's when your subjective experience doesn't matter at all, and all that matters is how you behave.
Forget about the doctor, they'll just write down everything as a symptom of the illness. They have no way of knowing how screwed up you may feel ( especially with long term side-effects ). They only have their statistics and their objective measurments derived from 15 minute interviews. Your subjective reports will be scrutinized and more than likely you'll get pegged with symptoms.
Just take good care of yourself. I believe you.
