Wellbutrin was definitely bad for my anxiety, had to take klonopin the entire time I was on it. I have never taken Lexapro, however, I have taken lots of other SSRI's and SNRI's and find them better for anxiety/panic combined with depression. Actually, if your primary symptoms are depression with anxiety Wellbutrin is not necessarily the best choice.
What are the primary and/or major symptoms that you are looking for relief from? Do you have major depression, and/or SAD? Panic disorder and/or GAD?
It often times does require a lot of trial and error, and other times one just has to weigh the benefits against the side-effects in order to find the right med. You definitely should keep a journal of meds you try, record the mild side-effects, the mild positive responses, the major or unbearable side-effects, as well as the significant improvements. Be aware that many side-effects will improve after a while on the med and may be worth the wait if you are having a positive response. And yet, some side-effects will only get worse, especially if the med is not helping.
I guess my point is... Lexapro and Wellbutrin are very different agents and it really depends on what symptoms you are currently trying to treat as to which is better. The Lexapro "cotton-head" feeling is usually transient, as many of the meds have similar start-up effects.
Hope you're feeling better!
