Dan, my sister took zyprexa many years ago and it did help her a lot with her delusions. I can tell you that she was able to even work. Unfortunately, she started to develop tremors, shakes and would keep swinging her body from side to side. Then she refused any more medication because she refuses to accept her illness; as most schizophrenics do.
Today I met with her doctor and she didn't give a good feed back on abilify. She doesn't use it with her patience and feels that it doesn't work as good as risperdal consta. The problem is that my sister refuses to take the 2 other risperdal pills a day which is part of the treatment. I'm forcing her to take the injection every 2 weeks, but can't force her to take the pills. So I've requested that the doctor increase the injection dosage to 50mg. The doctor doesn't have any patience on such a high dosage which doesn't give me a warm cozy feeling. But I'm willing to try anything. We can't continue seeing her living in that mental hell.
God willingly, someday the situation will get better. I refuse to give up on her.
I've also heard about neurofeedback and that some doctors are using it on schizophrenic patients and getting good results. So I've schedule a treatment and see if that helps.
God bless you and never lose hope. This is a cross that we must carry and just love them with all our hearts. They only hurt those they love the most.
