Someone can smoke grass or drink alcohol, use coke, etc. and obviously experience all sorts of strange reactions. Hangovers (even mild ones) can cause people to rage, get depressed, etc. Prescription drugs are a major precipitator of manic symptoms, too. Antidepressants are the most common ones, but I was given high dose prednisone in the past (for a week) and I had a major manic spinout from that. But... there are some people that get a reaction like that to a certain drug who absolutely have no manic symptoms whatsoever if they aren't exposed to it. I've been off all meds, substances, etc., for lengthy periods and *still* get hypomanic spells. So, I don't dispute the diagnosis. You pretty much have to live with it for several years to really draw a clear picture of what is going on. Hope this helps some.
