i was wondering if anyone with experience with stimulants could help me out. i've been diagnosed with mild ADHD, and i'm also on a lot of meds that make me tired. i tried high dose wellbutrin, and i've been on strattera at 80mg all summer. the strattera feels like a placebo to me-- i can take it or not and it doesn't make a difference. when i kept sleeping during the afternoon, my pdoc added provigil. at first, it seemed to work pretty well, but in a weird way. i never felt particularly more alert, but i wasn't falling asleep, and i could stay up as late as i wanted. it made me slightly spacey and possibly overfocused where i would lose track of my surroundings and do one thing for hours. i would have to reorient myself and make an effect to return to normal before meeting friends or having a conversation. also, even though provigil is supposed to be a pretty clean drug, i experienced an annoying tremor in my limbs. now all the early effects i experienced with provigil have gone away, and i just feel tired. my pdoc today suggested that i might try one of the more classic stimulants like ritalin or adderall. i don't know that much about either. from friends at school who use the drugs for studying, i've heard that adderall is the drug of choice for math and science, while ritalin is better for writing and the humanities. that doesn't help much as far as what med would be better for my ADD-related distraction and concentration problems. i think my instinct is to start with adderall. also, are the extended release versions better than the immediate release? are they equally potent? just asking because my experience with xanax xr is that it doesn't work nearly as well for me as the regular stuff. which med and which formulation (immediate or sustained release) is the most appetite suppressing?
one more question-- for some reason, i tend to quickly develop tolerances for these kinds of substances. i can take xanax or even klonopin every other day and still need higher doses for the same result. it's the same way with caffeine. can i take ritalin or adderall as prescribed and still develop a tolerance to the point that it doesn't work anymore?
i would appreciate your input and experiences. thanks so much!!!
