Cymbalta (duloxetine) is an antidepressant developed by Eli Lilly (makers of Prozac and Zyprexa) that is not yet approved by the FDA. It has some similarities to Effexor (venlafaxine). It inhibits the reuptake of both norepinephrine (NE) and serotonin (5-HT), but in a manner that is more balanced than that seen with Effexor. If the premarketing literature is to be believed, it promises to be a very effective antidepressant that will probably help a greater percentage of people than any of the SSRIs.
